Every August a version of the same conversation happens in our office. A student has an Italian offer, a bank statement built for last year's rules, and a date in his head that belongs to a different university. By the time the numbers are corrected, the pre-enrolment window at his own institution has closed. Italy is one of the cheapest serious routes into Europe for a Bangladeshi student — and one of the easiest to lose on a technicality.
For an Italy student visa from Bangladesh in 2027, plan around three numbers: €10,179.85 in proven, traceable funds, a Universitaly pre-enrolment deadline set by your own university rather than a national date, and 30 November as the outer visa deadline. Italy also lets extended family — including uncles, aunts and cousins — stand as financial guarantors.
How much money does Italy ask a Bangladeshi student to show in 2027?
The figure is €10,179.85 for the academic year, and the important part for anyone planning ahead is that it has been set for both 2026/27 and 2027/28. If you are planning a 2027 intake, this is your number — not the old €6,947.33, which still circulates on agent websites and in Facebook groups years after it stopped being current.
At today's rate that is roughly ৳14.4 lakh. But the amount is only half the test. Italian missions assess the provenance and traceability of the money as well as its presence: where it came from, whether it moved through lawful channels, and whether it genuinely belongs to the student or the family. A balance that appears in one lump a fortnight before submission invites exactly the questions you do not want.
Money borrowed and parked in an account to hit the figure. It photographs well and reads badly. Build the balance early, keep it consistent, and be able to show where each significant deposit came from — salary, business income, property sale, a documented family transfer. Traceability is not a formality here; it is the test.
Who can act as your financial guarantor for an Italy student visa?
This is Italy's most underrated advantage for Bangladeshi families, and it is why we often put Italy in front of students who would fail a UK or Australian financial test. The Italian Embassy in Dhaka accepts economic guarantees belonging to the applicant or to relatives — and the accepted list runs well beyond parents, taking in grandparents, siblings, uncles and aunts, and cousins. Those relatives may also be regularly residing in Italy or be Italian citizens.
Think about what that means in a Bangladeshi context. A family whose savings sit across a father, an uncle in Sylhet and a cousin working legally in Milan can assemble a genuine, documented guarantee. Most destination countries would refuse all three. Italy's large, long-settled Bangladeshi community makes the Italy-resident guarantor route especially realistic.
It is not a loophole and should not be treated as one. The guarantee has to be real, documented and traceable to the same standard as the student's own funds. But the door is genuinely wider than elsewhere, and many families never learn it exists.

What is the Universitaly deadline for 2027 — and why does everyone get it wrong?
Because there is no single national date, and almost every guide written for a general audience implies there is. Pre-enrolment happens on the Universitaly portal and is compulsory for visa-requiring students, but each university sets its own closing date within the national window.
Look at how far apart the 2026/27 dates sat across four well-known institutions:
| University | 2026/27 date | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Verona | 30 June 2026 | University-stated |
| Milan | 31 July 2026 | University-stated |
| Pavia (restricted) | 31 August 2026 | University-stated |
| Pisa | 30 September 2026 | University-stated |
| Visa application | 30 November | Outer boundary |
Three months separate Verona from Pisa. A student who reads "31 July" on a blog and applies to Verona has already lost the year before he starts. The Ministry of University and Research has published procedures covering both 2026/27 and 2027/28, so the structure should hold for your 2027 intake — but the specific 2027/28 dates were not published when this was written. Find your own university's page and diarise that date, not a date you read anywhere else, including here.
Do you need to book a VFS appointment in Bangladesh yourself?
Reportedly not, and this is worth knowing before anyone charges you for it. Students properly registered on the Universitaly portal are contacted by VFS Global by email — sent to the same address used for the Universitaly registration — to arrange the submission appointment. On that basis no separate appointment request is needed.
Two practical consequences. Use an email address you actually check, spelled correctly, on the Universitaly form, and check the spam folder daily once pre-enrolment is confirmed. And treat any offer to "arrange your VFS appointment" for a fee with suspicion. We could not open the VFS Bangladesh page during this research, so verify this at the counter or by phone before relying on it.
For reference, the Italian Embassy in Bangladesh is at Bay's Edgewater, NE (N) 12 North Avenue, 3rd Floor, Gulshan 2, Dhaka 1212 — read from the embassy's own site on the day of writing.
What happens after the visa — and what still catches people?
Two deadlines that sit after the celebration. You must file for the permesso di soggiorno within 8 working days of arriving, using the yellow kit from a Poste Italiane counter with a Sportello Amico sign. And you must be enrolled by 31 January; miss that and the permit can be revoked, whatever the visa says.
Once you are there, work is capped at 20 hours a week with an annual ceiling, which is real support but not a funding plan. Anyone building their budget around part-time earnings has built it wrong.
Your Italy 2027 planning checklist
- Open your target university's own Universitaly page and write down its date.
- Start building the €10,179.85 balance months early, not weeks.
- Document the source of every significant deposit.
- Map which relatives could stand as guarantors, including any in Italy.
- Use a correct, monitored email on the Universitaly form.
- Plan the first week in Italy around the 8-working-day permesso rule.
Why we keep recommending Italy to Bangladeshi families
Not because it is fashionable. Because the arithmetic works for families that other countries price out. Public university tuition is modest, the funds requirement is a one-year test rather than a permanent income threshold, and the guarantor rule reflects how Bangladeshi families actually hold money — spread across relatives rather than concentrated in one salaried parent.
What Italy punishes is vagueness. Wrong deadline, untraceable balance, guarantor documents assembled in a hurry. Those are the three files we spend the most time fixing, and all three are avoidable months in advance. That is the work worth paying for — not an appointment booking that arrives free in your inbox.
Verify before you act. The €10,179.85 figure and its application to 2026/27 and 2027/28, the extended-family guarantor rule, and the 30 November boundary are consistent across the Italian Embassy in Bangladesh's published guidance and multiple current sources, and match what we verified earlier in 2026. The named university dates are 2026/27 dates, quoted to show the spread — they are not your 2027 dates. The VFS email-contact process could not be confirmed on the VFS site during this research. Confirm every date and figure with your university and the embassy before acting.
