A Bangladeshi passport needs a visa for Malaysia. The government's own fee is about ৳3,100 — and one of the two routes people talk about is not open to you at all.

Which route is yours — single entry or multiple entry?

Malaysia's Immigration Department publishes exactly three visa types: Single Entry, Multiple Entry and Transit. For a Bangladeshi tourist the choice collapses to two, and the honest answer is that only one of them is actually available to you.

YOUR ROUTE
Single Entry Visa (eVISA)

Issued, in the Immigration Department's words, to foreign nationals who need a visa to enter Malaysia mainly for a social visit. That is the tourist category. You apply online from Bangladesh and the Dhaka High Commission publishes the fee in ringgit and taka.

  • One entry only
  • Normally valid 3 months from the date of issue
  • Stay of up to 30 days
  • RM 20 + RM 105, plus a payment convenience fee
NOT FOR YOU
Multiple Entry Visa (MEV)

Issued for business or government-to-government matters. The Immigration Department then names exactly two nationalities that may use an MEV for a social visit — India, at RM 100, and China, at RM 30. Bangladesh is not named.

  • Valid 3 to 12 months
  • 30 days per entry, no extension
  • Proof of sufficient funds and a confirmed return ticket
  • Tour groups are not eligible

What does a Malaysia tourist visa actually cost from Bangladesh?

Less than almost anyone in the market quotes. The High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka publishes two numbers and nothing else: a visa fee of RM 20.00, which it describes as "approximately about BDT600", and a processing fee of RM 105.00, "approximately about BDT 2,500". On top of that sits a payment convenience fee the page puts at between 0.8% and 1.7%, depending on how you pay.

Where do you actually apply?

Online, and from Bangladesh. The High Commission directs applicants to malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my, and states plainly that you must "submit eVISA application from the country of residence" — so an application filed for you from a third country is not the published route. The FAQ adds a second channel: applications may also go through Authorised Visa Application Agencies appointed by the Government of Malaysia to receive applications on its behalf. Both end at the same immigration system. The difference is who fills the form and what they charge you for doing it.

What documents does the mission ask for?

This is the published list for a social-visit application. It is short — which is exactly why people lose applications on the two items that are not.

  • Original passport and a photocopy
  • Completed visa application form
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • Return flight ticket
  • Recent 6 months' bank statement with a letter of solvency
  • Hotel reservation
  • Supporting documents where they apply — invitation letter, marriage certificate and similar

The eVISA is filed online from Bangladesh — the two documents that decide it are the bank statement and the solvency letter.

Why is the bank statement the document that decides it?

Because it is the only one that cannot be produced on the morning of the application. Six months is a long look back, and a solvency letter is a bank's own statement about you, not a printout you generate. Between them they answer the question every visa officer is really asking: can this traveller pay for this trip, and does the money look like theirs? A hotel booking and a return ticket can be arranged in an hour. A six-month history cannot.

What does the process look like, start to finish?

1
Check your passport first. Malaysia's visa-required list includes Bangladesh, so nothing here is optional — and a passport near expiry causes problems later, not at the counter.
2
Let the bank statement mature. Six months is the published window. Start the trip planning around the account, not the other way round.
3
Get the solvency letter from your branch. This is issued by the bank and takes its own time.
4
Hold a hotel reservation and a return ticket. Both are on the published document list.
5
Apply on malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my from Bangladesh, or through an authorised agency, and pay RM 20 + RM 105 plus the convenience fee.
6
Travel inside the three-month validity. The clock starts at issue, not at departure — a visa issued in January for a trip in May has already expired.

Why are Bangladeshi applications refused?

Almost never for one dramatic reason. Usually for one of these, and every one of them is fixable before you apply.

  • A balance that appears suddenly. Six months of statement exists precisely to show where money came from.
  • No solvency letter, or a statement printed without the bank's letter alongside it.
  • A booking that contradicts the itinerary — hotel dates that do not match the flights.
  • Applying from outside Bangladesh, when the published instruction is to apply from your country of residence.
  • Letting the three-month validity lapse before travelling, then arriving on an expired visa.
  • Assuming the visa covers work or study. It does not — those go through a Visa With Reference, approved by Immigration in Malaysia first.

What we could not verify, stated plainly. The High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka publishes no processing time, no counter opening hours and no passport-validity minimum on the pages we read, so this guide quotes none of them; its stated contact for questions is dhaka@imi.gov.my. The Immigration Department's Types of Visa page lists only three visa types and no Visa on Arrival category, so we make no claim about visa on arrival for Bangladeshi nationals in either direction — confirm it with the mission before relying on it. The RM 125 to ৳3,770 conversion is our own arithmetic at the rate of 28 September 2026 and will move. All figures above were read on 28 September 2026 at the sources linked below.
