Every week at our Bangladesh office, the same question opens the conversation: "Which is the best country to study abroad for Bangladeshi students in 2027 — Malta, Italy, the UK, Malaysia or Cyprus?" It sounds like it should have one answer. It doesn't. The honest answer depends on your budget, your subject, and what you want your life to look like five years from now. This guide compares all five destinations side by side — tuition, living costs, visa money requirements, part-time work and post-study options — so you can see exactly where you fit.
There is no single best country — it depends on your priorities. Italy has Europe's lowest public tuition, the UK offers the strongest global brand plus a 2-year Graduate Route, Malaysia is the cheapest overall entry point, Malta gives you English-speaking EU life, and Cyprus balances low costs with generous merit scholarships. The comparison below shows which fits you.
What should Bangladeshi students compare before choosing a country?
Compare five things, in this order: total cost (tuition plus living), the visa financial requirement, how realistic the visa process is from Bangladesh, part-time work rights, and what happens after graduation. Rankings and Instagram reels rarely mention points two and five — yet those are the ones that decide whether your plan survives contact with an embassy.
A cheap-looking destination with a difficult visa route can cost you more than an "expensive" one with a predictable process. That is why we always tell students in Bangladesh: choose the route you can finish, not just the one you can start.
Which country has the lowest tuition fees in 2027?
Italy, by a clear margin — at public universities, tuition is income-based and can fall between roughly €1,000 and €4,000 a year for most Bangladeshi families, and DSU regional scholarships can reduce it further (some grants range from about €2,500 to €7,900 a year). Malaysia comes second: public universities typically charge around RM15,000–30,000 a year and private ones RM20,000–45,000 — roughly ৳4–12 lakh. Cyprus private universities publish BSc fees of about €4,200–€11,600, and 50% merit scholarships are commonly advertised (read the fine print — they often apply to tuition only). Malta's University of Malta sits around €7,000–€12,000 a year for non-EU students according to published sources, though we treat that as unconfirmed until checked for your course. The UK is the most expensive: international undergraduate fees commonly run £14,000–£26,000 a year.
Italy's DSU system is need-based, not merit-based — your family's documented income decides it. Bangladeshi students with properly prepared ISEE Parificato paperwork have won grants that cover tuition, meals and even housing. The paperwork is the hard part; that is exactly the kind of case-specific work we do daily.
Which country is cheapest for living costs?
Malaysia and Cyprus, with Italy's smaller cities close behind. Here is the honest month-by-month picture, using figures we verified in our recent country guides:
| Country | Typical UG tuition/yr | Living cost/month | Visa funds to show | Part-time work | Post-study stay |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Italy | €1,000–4,000 (income-based) | €700–1,000 | €10,179.85/yr | 20 hrs/wk | Options exist — ask |
| UK | £14,000–26,000 | £740–1,090 (outside London) | £1,171–1,529/mo × 9 | 20 hrs/wk term-time | Graduate Route 2 yrs |
| Malta | ≈€7,000–12,000* | €900–1,300 | €950/mo minimum | Verify current rules | Limited |
| Malaysia | RM15,000–45,000 | RM1,500–2,500 | EMGS-assessed | Breaks only | Graduate Pass excludes BD |
| Cyprus | €4,200–11,600 | €600–1,000 | ≈৳10–12 lakh* | 20 hrs, restricted sectors | Limited |

Which visa is most realistic for Bangladeshi students in 2027?
Each of the five works — but they demand very different proof of funds. The UK wants £1,529 a month for London or £1,171 outside London (up to 9 months), held for 28 consecutive days, plus a £558 application fee, the £776-a-year NHS surcharge and a TB test from an IOM clinic in Dhaka or Sylhet. Italy's 2026/27 figure is €10,179.85 for the year — and uniquely, Italy accepts extended family (grandparents, siblings, uncles, aunts, even Italy-resident relatives) as financial guarantors, which no other country on this list does. Malta's e-Residence minimum is €950 a month, though realistic budgets need more. Malaysia runs everything through the EMGS online system with rolling intakes. Cyprus applications are filed at VFS Global in Dhaka but decided by the Cyprus High Commission in New Delhi — one reason its timelines surprise people.
Italy visa files go through VFS Global Dhaka as walk-in (no appointment needed) with mandatory fingerprinting, and your academic documents need a Dichiarazione di Valore from the Italian Embassy in Dhaka — typically 2–4 weeks. Cyprus has no full embassy in Bangladesh, only an honorary consulate. These Dhaka-level details are where most self-managed applications lose weeks.
Any consultancy promising a "guaranteed visa" in any of these five countries is misleading you — every embassy makes its own decision. And for Cyprus: universities in North Cyprus are a completely different (and riskier) legal system from the EU-member Republic of Cyprus. Know which one you are applying to.
Where can you work part-time during your studies?
The UK and Italy are the most straightforward: 20 hours a week during term time (UK) or generally up to 20 hours a week (Italy), full-time in UK vacations. Cyprus allows 20 hours but only in listed sectors like hospitality and agriculture, and reportedly after a waiting period — verify current rules with the migration department before counting on it. Malaysia is the strictest: part-time work is only permitted during semester breaks longer than seven days. Malta's current student work rules should be verified with Jobsplus/Identità for your case. One rule applies everywhere: part-time income can support you, but no embassy accepts it as a substitute for the visa financial requirement.
Which country lets you stay after graduation?
The UK has the clearest route: the Graduate Route currently gives 2 years of open work rights after your degree (18 months for applications from January 2027 — so the 2026 intake matters). Italy has post-study options tied to the permesso di soggiorno system that depend on your situation — worth a personal consultation rather than a blog promise. Malaysia's Graduate Pass list currently excludes Bangladesh, so do not build a stay-back plan around it. Malta and Cyprus offer limited formal stay-back schemes; students who remain usually transition through employment. We would rather tell you this honestly now than let you discover it in your final semester.
So which is the best country to study abroad for Bangladeshi students in 2027?
Match the country to your profile instead of chasing a universal answer:
Tightest budget, want Europe
Italy first (income-based tuition + DSU), Cyprus second (low living costs, merit scholarships).
Strongest degree brand + stay-back
The UK — highest cost, but the Graduate Route and global recognition justify it if your family can document the funds.
Lowest total cost, closer to home
Malaysia — smallest budget, rolling intakes, familiar climate; accept the limited post-study options.
English-speaking EU lifestyle
Malta — small, safe, English is an official language; budget realistically above the €950/mo visa minimum.
Undecided?
Shortlist two countries, then compare real offer letters and total 3-year costs — not headlines. That comparison is exactly what a free consultation is for.
Whichever way you lean, this checklist applies everywhere:
- Valid passport (18+ months remaining) and attested academic certificates
- IELTS or accepted English test (requirements vary by university and visa route)
- Documented, explainable source of funds — the #1 refusal trigger when done badly
- A Statement of Purpose that matches your academic history and career logic
- Country-specific extras: TB test (UK), Dichiarazione di Valore (Italy), EMGS medical (Malaysia)
How does Eduvisa help you choose — and land?
What we see at Eduvisa, file after file, is that students rarely fail because they picked a "wrong" country — they fail because the plan was not matched to their documents, budget and timeline. Our team compares your real numbers against all five countries' current requirements, builds the application, and — unlike most consultancies — stays with you after you land: airport pickup guidance, housing help, registration deadlines (Italy's 8-working-day permesso window, Cyprus's 7-day Pink Slip rule) and settling in. The journey does not end at the visa stamp, and neither do we.
